Wedding Videography- Redefined

As I mentioned in our last post, I had the pleasure of working with Kristine Korver of Fifty Foot Films at Denise and Bradley's September nuptials. They are a Hollywood-based company who specialize in capturing weddings on a unique and romantic medium- film! You may recognize their name- they have captured the weddings of Christina Aguilera to the producer Jordan Bratman; actress Mariska Hargitay to fellow “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” actor Peter Hermann; Jessica Capshaw (Stephen Spielberg's step-daughter) to Christopher Gavigan; baseball star Mike Piazza to Alicia Rickter; Law and Order actress Stephanie March to celeb chef Bobby Flay and Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott- just to name a few. This beautiful format comes with a price tag- the typical range for a 45-minute full-day film with synchronized sound is from $12,500 for Super 8 to $27,500 for 16 millimeter. However, there are a couple of more affordable options: If you have a friend who is "willing and able" to document your day, they also offer a $3,500 do-it-yourself Honeymoon Director’s Pack; it includes a Super 8 camera rental, a coaching session and eight rolls of film, which the company later edits into a movie. Also, be on the look out for "Paper Tape," a budget offshoot, which we hope will be introduced to the Atlanta market sometime this year! Denise & Bradley

Denise and Bradley were married at the Swan House Lawn at the Atlanta History Center on September 2nd. Denise has impeccable taste that was evident in every aspect of the wedding including the chic and elegant black, white and rich red color palatte. Denise had talent on her side with Dallas fashion and lifestyle photographer Brian Parscale and her friend & bridesmaid/videographer, Kristine Korver of Fifty Foot Films (see next post to learn more). Denise looked timeless in her alencon lace Judd Wadell gown. The reception was held at Function in Decatur- a very unique/modern/urban venue which was such a fun contrast to the traditional setting of the ceremony. It is rare that I get as excited as I was about the table linens Denise chose- a gorgeous black and white floral silhouette. The deep red florals pulled the look together. Guests noshed on a delicious meal from Sun in my Belly before dancing the night away. Denise & Brad gave parting guests one of their favorite things- customized bottles of Vitamin Water (which also happens to be a great for the morning after the wedding ;) Best wishes to Denise and Bradley as they settle into their new life in Oklahoma!

My inspiration right now...

Red & Aqua! This fab retro color combo made the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings last Summer and I have been in love with it ever since (and have become obsessed with it only as of late). This also makes a great twist on the traditional Holiday red & green... Enjoy!

Charleston

Occassionally (and I mean very occassionally) we have a little bit of down time for some R & R around here... My husband and I had the recent pleasure of spending our 5 year wedding Anniversary in Isle of Palms & Charleston, South Carolina. We truly enjoyed the peace of the Isle of Palms and the romance and historic beauty of Charleston and can't wait for our next opportunity to get away and reconnect!

Jan & John

It was a fun evening with Jan and John for their wedding ceremony and reception at King Plow Art Gallery on October 20th . We placed over a hundred candles down the aisle to create a romantic glow as Jan and John were married in a ceremony they created themselves. The room was then transformed into an intimate setting where the Jazz band Squat performed as guests dined on fabulous fare from Bold American Catering. I had a blast with Sandra and Greg of Picture This!- thank you for the beautiful images!

Jessica & Jacob

Cate and Amanda were running the show as Jessica and Jacob were married at Marietta Conference Center on September the 15th. Jessica and Jacob chose to go big- they had 400! wedding guests and Jessica had 8 bridesmaids and Jacob had 13 groomsmen, so it was a day filled with a lot of family and friends! The neutral taupe and ivory color palatte was elegantly understated on the lush grounds of the conference center. And as usual, the fantastic band Moxie kept the party going all night long... Thank you 35Atlanta for these lovely images!

Ashley Baber Weddings in the Vendor Spotlight!

Paper Dolls Design is known for their stylish invitations, announcements and stationary for any occassion. Gia is the "Clever Kitten" heading up this design house popular for their creative and vibrant wedding stationary, and she recently interviewed me for their "Vendor Spotlight."
You can find the interview here on the trendy and in-the-know "Chat" section of their website featuring "news, views and useful tidbits from the paper dolls."

Favors... for a cause!

I was just thrilled when I found about this unique favor: Truffles for a Cause. We have a lot of brides and grooms donate to a meaningful charity as their favor and we just think this is such a lovely way to let your guests know more about the cause you have donated to and take a yummy (champagne truffle!) treat home. A custom-designed card naming your charity and its website sits atop each truffle, further raising awareness, and increasing the chance of future donations among your guests. They will also include a custom favor table card, which thanks your guests, and offers a brief description of your charity.

We Love Navy!

And so do our brides! I love that navy is really making an appearance as "the new black" in a lot of our 2008 weddings- especially on bridesmaids! I love this particular dress from J.Crew because of it's versatility for bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes.

Ashley Baber Weddings featured on Brides.com!

I was so thrilled as I checked my daily round of bridal blogs and found Ashley Baber Weddings as the feature article on the Atlanta Brides.com blog! I spoke with Melissa Diskin (who is a doll!) a few months ago for a contribution on unique guest books, but didn't think much more of our conversation about the company, so it comes as such a nice suprise! See the complete article here: http://www.brides.com/local/atlanta/blog/localscoutatlanta/22/2007/11/128/uniquely_you_planning_with_ash.html and keep up with her blog for great information on local vendors!

The Paisley Umbrella

We are just beyond excited about our new studio space in The Paisley Umbrella. This innovative bridal co-op concept was created by the designer of Olive Style and comes to life in an adorable cottage in Buckhead. The open house will take place on Wednesday, December 12th from 7-11 pm and is sure to feature some of the best and brightest in the Atlanta bridal industry. We hope to see you all there!

The Team

We had so much fun getting our pictures taken this week, although it was a bit warmer than we anticipated! We are (in the process of) making over the "About Us" section of the website with bios of the whole team, so be on the look out for that... But for now, here is a sneak peak of the results of our photo shoot!

Emily & Ryan

"Wow" is all I can say. Occassionally we will have a wedding that turns out even better than we could have imagined. This is one of those times. Emily and Ryan were married at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church which happened to be literally next door to Emily's parent's home, where the reception was held. Emily knew early on she wanted a green color palatte infused with ivory, natural brown tones and plum. Emily wanted a very organic look and chose natural elements for her decor- moss, branches, artichokes, succulants, water, candlelight, etc., even using wood pieces carved by her father to hold the table names. The table names were inspired by Emily and Ryans love of travel and nature. Instead of cake, the couple decided to go with Ryan's favorite- brownie sundaes! A dessert station allowed guests to customize their very own sundae. The band was amazing- complete with "Michael Jackson," who even managed to get Emily up on stage. It was a pleasure working with the lovely Orchard family to create this stunning event. Tina Rowden captured these amazing images. Alecia & Tripp

What a fun wedding and lovely couple! On November 3rd, Alecia and Tripp were married at one of the prettiest churches I have worked in here in Atlanta- the Central Congregational United Church of Christ. The huge glass sanctuary windows that face the woods were like frames for the fall leaves and the grounds were perfect for amazing photos before and after the ceremony. The reception was held at Lambert Place and the newlyweds wowed the crowd with a very upbeat first dance, which set the scene for the rest of the evening! The guests had a blast dancing the night away and Alecia thought of every detail- even a snack of mini hot dogs and chocolate milkshakes that came out a couple of hours after dinner. They were an absolute hit amongst the guests! It was a pleasure working with David Christensen who took the beautiful images you see here.

Jillian & Chris

Jillian and Chris had their sophisticated black tie wedding and reception at the beautiful Callanwolde Fine Arts Center on October 27th. The ceremony took place at the base of the intricate, dark wood staircase as light poured in from the window above. The decor was gorgeous- warm ivory and gold tones for the ceremony and cocktail hour and tonal purple florals that popped on the black, white and silver damask linens for the reception. I absolutely love the contrast of the china and the black menus with silver calligraphy. Guests enjoyed the champagne bar where they could customize their own champagne cocktail with several types of fruit purees, including pear and mango, before the luxurious dinner of lobster and steak. It was a fantastic party that was topped off when the groom serenaded his bride as he played the band leader's guitar- and then her brother joined in on the drums! Ben Vigil took the stunning images you see above...

Anna & Rick

This fun couple was married on October 13th at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where a bagpiper escorted the newlyweds out of the church after the ceremony. Their reception followed at the Fabulous Fox Theater where an elaborate estate table set to seat more that 30 of their guests was the gorgeous focal point of the room. It was such a pleasure to work with Anna and her mother, Claudia, during the planning process. Best wishes to Anna as she finishes her PhD and as she and Rick start their life together! Thanks to Christine Gallagher for these beautiful images. See Anna and Rick's slideshow here: http://www.christinehatfield.com/Anna&Rick/

October 7th!

It was a busy day for Ashley Baber Weddings on October the 7th! I had the pleasure of being the Maid of Honor in my best friend Liz's wedding at Rhodes Hall. Cate was at the Trolley Barn for Kate & Steve's wedding which can be seen here: http://www.ourlaboroflove.com/darkroom/share/?client/katesteve. And Emily and Amanda were back at Fernbank for KiIana and Shawn's wedding. Mike Moreland got some beautiful shots of the happy couple.

Marci & Kevin

While Amanda and I were at Dee and David's wedding, Beka was at Emory Conference Center with Marci and Kevin. It was a beautiful day and quite a party- complete with the groom's hilarious rendition of "Ice Ice Baby."

Dee & David

I must say that this was one of my favorite weddings this year. Dee and David were such a delight to work with. This multi-cultural celebration took place on October 6th. The ceremony was at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church and the reception followed at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Dee did so much to ensure there were a lot of personalized details at her wedding. The outside of the pews in the church were adorned with framed black and white images from Dee and David's engagement session. After the ceremony, guests were invited to a formal tea time at Callanwolde as a nod to David's British heritage. Later, cocktail hour got started with Indian snacks and a pomegranate & champagne specialty drink. The reception was filled with amazing fall colors, florals and decor. Dee changed into a gorgeous red sari complete with stunning jewelry to match just before she and David were announced for their first dance. Speaking of fashion, you must take note of that fabulous feather hat David's Mum wore! The night continued with a cross-cultured celebration that brought everyone together. Guests were sent home with wine featuring a picture of the newlyweds on the personalized labels. Best wishes to you both, Dee & David! Thank you to Ray of 35Atlanta for these beautiful images!
