AJC Wedding Guide: Spring 2008

The AJC Spring Bridal Guide came out early this month and featured some great info, including an article that Ashley Baber Weddings contributed to titled "Catering to the guests." It talks about the reception trends that ensure your guests enjoy themselves and also gain a sense of your {the bride and groom's} personality. Here are the seven reception trends the Atlanta experts agree are sure to please:
1. Showcase what you are passionate about. Incorporate a little bit of your personality and/or heritage into your reception with things like your famliy origin's regional favorite food {we have a British client serving fish and chips!}. Or treat your male guests to a few of your groom's favorite things- a cigar and cognac bar.
2.Create a lounge area for your guests to relax and mingle.
3. Make cocktail hour fun with interactive bars. Let your guests customize their martinis or champagne drinks with fun accompaniments such as fruit purees and liquors.
4. Be creative with tabletop decor. Gone are the days of a single centerpiece on each table. Mix it up with vases in multiple heights with several varieties and shades of flowers all in the same color family.
5. Replace buffets with interactive food stations. No one likes to wait in line for food. Period. Food stations allow your guests to move around the room and mingle with other guests. The stations also allow your guests to customize their food choices {ie: a pasta station with several types of pasta and sauces to choose from}.
6. Get creative with entertainment. Interactive bands and photobooths topped the list as fun ways to engage and entertain your guests.
7. Supplement the wedding cake with a dessert bar. Not everyone likes cake, so a mini-dessert display, create-your-own ice cream sundae station or espresso bar are a great way to end the evening.
