A Year in Review :: 2010

Hello and Happy New Year! We took a bit of a blogging "hiatus" as we wrapped up the end of 2010, enjoyed the Holidays and settled into the New Year. We have been hard at work on a new website that will launch very soon as well.

Before we dive back into our "regularly scheduled blogging," I thought it would be lovely to review all of the fun we had in 2010.

Early last year I headed to our Virginia office for a photo shoot that would later be our first feature on Style me Pretty.

In February we were asked to style a shoot for Bride and Bloom Magazine. I will offer you an itsy-bitsy sneak peek. We look forward to seeing the feature in their next issue.

As Spring and Summer rolled around, there were lots of wonderful weddings including Atlanta Hawks player Josh Smith's wedding at the St. Regis, which was one of the largest weddings {from a production stand point} we have ever done (thousands of crystals hanging from the ceiling... etc...). I cannot share the decor images quite yet as the wedding is slated to be featured in one of our favorite bridal publications, but, again, here is one teeny tiny little sneak peek:

We were honored with wonderful press this year. Features on some of our favorite blogs such as Style me Pretty and Green Wedding Shoes as well as being named one of Atlanta's "Top 10 Most Influential Event Planners" by Occasions Magazine and "Best of Weddings" 2010/2011 by The Knot were stand out moments.

I traveled A LOT this year including for two destination weddings. Kate and Mark's wedding was in one of the most scenic spots you can imagine in Vail, Colorado.

October was an amazing month! I went to the Engage conference again (one of seven or eight business conferences I attended this year), which is always beyond my wildest expectations. The speakers are the best of the best in the bridal industry and the attention to details, decor, food- everything- is unparalleled. This year the event was held at the beautiful and historic Breakers in Palm Beach.

Later in the month I attended bridal fashion market in New York City and reported back on the latest trends for Atlanta Weddings Magazine. So many gorgeous gowns...

I wrapped up October styling a photo shoot for the cover of Occasions Magazine (full blog post coming right up...).

I took a very big leap in November and spoke- for the first time- to a group of event professionals at The Party Goddess "Uncensored" conference in Los Angeles. Although I was extremely nervous, it was so much fun!

In December I was thrilled to travel back to New York City to help Get Married and my sweet friend and wedding planner Annie Lee from Daughter of Design with the first ever wedding in Times Square and it was on New Year's Eve!! It was absolutely one of the most surreal experiences of my life to be in Times Square on New Year's Eve and watch the ball drop. Stay tuned for our next post with more images from and details about this truly unique event!

Jenn & Grant :: A Sneak Peek

I love following up an E-Session post with the couple's wedding images! We can only share a few of Jenn and Grant' s wedding images here, but look for all of their wedding details in the next Atlanta Weddings Magazine.

We loved all of the stationery from Eberle Invitations. It absolutely captured that "vintage Holiday" feel Jenn was going for.

Jenn really wanted to be sure that each guest felt special, so there were lots of personal touches including a "Make a Wish, Take a Wish" station where guests left personal messages for the couple and found an envelope with their names and table assignments. Inside the envelope was a handwritten note to each guest thanking them for coming.

Anna and Spencer's images are really stunning and capture the day perfectly. Thank you, Jenn and Grant, for including me in your wedding day celebration. You were an absolute pleasure to work with! Wishing you all the best in your new life together!!

Did you know we offer destination wedding planning services? Kate and Mark were married in Vail, Colorado on August 14th in one of the most jaw-dropping ceremony locations you can possibly imagine. Guests made the (well worth it) trip up the mountain to Piney River Ranch where the couple exchanged vows. I love Kate's clean and slightly preppy aesthetic. The navy|green|white color palette was perfect.

The reception followed at Donovan Pavillion where guests enjoyed "John Dalys" {the spiked version of an Arnold Palmer} and an innovative Paella station. Mark's Mom baked a plethora of desserts for guests to enjoy in addition candy and the two small cakes adorned with the cutest cake toppers fashioned after the bride and groom and the "flower dog," Izzy. Carabiners with flashlights served as functional favors for guests to use to find their way back to the hotel at the end of the night.

We were excited to see Kate and Mark's wedding recently featured on the Couture Colorado blog. Thank you for sharing these gorgeous photos with us, Tamera!

Well, they were married and had their reception on June 19th at the Piedmont Room at Park Tavern. The beautiful affair with a green, black and white color palette included amazing flowers from Amy Osaba (just look at Cindy's phalaenopsis orchid bouquet!!) and a cake from Sweet Sensations.

Melissa & Chris

Melissa and Chris were married on the Swan House Lawn at the Atlanta History Center on May 8th.

Melissa and Chris incorporated so many wonderful details into their wedding day. Here are some of our favorites:

Chris had a "Groomswoman" and Melissa had a "Bridesman." I love it when couples break tradition to incorporate people/things/ideas that are meaningful to them.

The flowers! They were so bright- perfect for Spring. There were even lemons in the floral pieces adorning the stairway to the ceremony site- how fresh! I also love the color-coordinated ribbon Melissa found to tie off the boutonnieres and wrap the bouquets.

Pretty floral cones in the perfect shade of blue on Sheppard's hooks line both sides of the aisle.

After the ceremony and cocktail hour (in the Boxwood Garden), guests moved to the Grand Overlook Ballroom for dinner and dancing.

Chris and Melissa love to travel, so guests found their table assignments on luggage tags (which were also their favors) on a table accented with vintage suitcases.

Table numbers were designed to look like post cards and featured a picture of the couple on the front vacationing at one of the many places they have traveled.

The Bride's cake was gorgeous! Melissa and Chris play kickball, so the Groom's cake was quite apropos.

Guests- ok, primarily the male guests, enjoyed the cigar and cordial bar.

Custom lighting added a special touch. Guests felt like they were spending a magical evening "under the stars."

Meredith & Matt

Meredith and Matt were married and had their reception at The Biltmore Ballrooms on June 26th. Meredith looked stunning in her Maggie Sottero gown. The ballroom took on the perfect blush pink hue as the sun set and guests danced the night away.

One of our favorite details from Meredith and Matt's wedding day was the gorgeous hand painted stationery from our friend Kristy Rice of Momental Designs.

Great idea! If you spend the money to rent that special get-away car, be sure you take the time for some special photos. Matt and Meredith stopped by the historic Fox Theatre on their way to their hotel.

Collen and Don were married and had their wedding reception just south of Atlanta at Serenbe on June 5th. I love neutral color palettes, so this wedding really made me swoon. The J.Crew bridesmaids dresses, Colleen's couture gown and her Oscar de la Renta bejeweled peep toes don't hurt, either. The ceremony was set in a wooded area and the surrounding tall trees made it feel perfectly intimate. Kathleen & Jon: Part II

Kathleen and Jon's wedding reception took place at The Foundry at Puritan Mill. The surroundings are full of industrial/rustic backdrops- a great contrast to the soft beauty and newness of a wedding. Love the cake with swiss dots (to mimic Kathleen's dress, of course) and the fun topper from Ashley Meaders. I am such a fan of local products used in weddings in anyway possible, so we loved to see the Georgia honey favors! And check out that exit shot! Nothing short of fabulous. Just like this whole wedding.

Our Labor of Love took so many amazing photos of this wedding, we just had to make it a two-parter. Kathleen and Jon were married at Trinity Presbyterian in Atlanta on May 22nd. I am in love with the carefully perfected red, white & blue color palette Kathleen chose for the wedding and reception. Her swiss dot Christos gown makes me swoon along with the sassy floral embellished peep-toes from J.Crew.

What a wonderful wedding full of fabulous details! Amy and Ryan were married at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church on June 12th. Their reception followed at the Piedmont Garden Tent. Some of our favorite details from this perfectly Southern soiree: Amy's Melissa Sweet gown, all of the pink and green details, black and white damask linens and custom monogram pillows (even the ring bearers pillow!) from I Do Linens, parents and grandparents wedding photos cutting their wedding cakes placed on the cake table and guest tables named after colleges- some of which the Groom's family have been football coaches for (the Groom's Grandfather is legendary FSU coach Bobby Bowden).

A pink, Parisian, picnic e-session: Melanie & Mike

We are excited to be back on the blog after a hiatus with summer vacation and lots of fabulous weddings that we can't wait to share! But first- we wanted to share this special e-session we styled that was recently featured on Style Me Pretty's Little Black Book blog. Melanie is a florist- the owner of Le Bonne Fleur- here in Atlanta. We conceptualized her sweet picnic engagement session with the mega-talented photographers David and Linda Murray of David Murray Weddings to incorporate lots of pink floral details since she was engaged to Michael Pink, as well as some Parisian details- a nod to their honeymoon location. I have been in love with fabric with Swiss Dots for quite some time now... I think I saw a Carolina Herrera Swiss Dot bridal gown years and years ago and have been adoring the fabric ever since. So, when I saw this wedding (I. Die.)- and the bride's Pronovias gown and veil- on Style Me Pretty, it was love at first sight.

Lauren & Matt

Lauren and Matt were married and had their reception at The Foundry at Puritan Mill on June 5th. Lauren chose a classic and slightly preppy palette for her wedding- navy, champagne, white and ivory and little pops of bright kelly green. Lauren got ready at the W Downtown and took some pre-wedding photos on-site. Love these custom wedding dress hangers from etsy featuring the bride's new last name- a lot of our brides are using these!

Lauren and Matt saw each other before the ceremony to be sure they had plenty of time to enjoy themselves and greet guests during their cocktail hour and wedding reception. Love this photo of their "First Look."

The flower you see on the escort cards came from Lauren's wedding invitation. We also included it, along with the couple's name, on the photo strip guests got to take home from the photo booth.

The monogram on the cake was used on the menus as well as on custom cocktail coasters.

Great idea! Changing your look for the reception can be as simple as removing your veil and adding flowers to your hair.

We had a specialty lighting company hang a massive amount of string lights over the dance floor. I think it adds so much to the look and feel of the wedding- and the photos!

Everyone enjoyed the party before sending the bride and groom off with a petal exit.

Qunnie & Eric on Style Me Pretty and in Weddings Unveiled Magazine!

It has taken literally every. last. bit. of my self control to not post this wedding prior to today. We are so excited to see Qunnie and Eric's wedding on Style Me Pretty today! Qunnie and Eric were married on Thursday, May 27th at Serenbe in Palmetto, Georgia. There are so many amazing details, I kind of don't know where to begin... So, I'll start at the beginning. Qunnie came up with an adorable theme, "Peachy Sweet Love," that was reflected in many of the details- even the smallest details such as the vintage stamps on the amazing custom Rifle Design invitations and sweet Georgia peaches subtly incorporated into the decor.

After a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, Qunnie and Eric had their wedding ceremony under a huge, old maple tree where they exchanged personal vows and Cartier wedding bands. Qunnie handcrafted the screen printed fan programs for the ceremony. And just look at the PEONIES in Qunnie's bouquet! To die for!

After the ceremony, guests moved to the Guest House pool lawn and cabana for cocktails, canapes and, of course, sweet peach tea served in mason jars. The reception was held on the Guest House lawn and the decor was simply amazing- sweet, vintage, rustic, romantic, perfect.

After the couple cut their 3 tier peach buttermilk pound cake, the intimate dinner party carried on with live Jazz music in the background. Guests had fun taking pictures with various props in the make shift photo booth with a Fuji instax mini camera before guests called it a night and made their way to their respective cottages on the Serenbe property. The couple will have two more wedding ceremonies- one in Shanghai and another in Malaysia- and will be honeymooning in Japan later this year.

Honeymoon Packing Tips: Part II

Now that you know what to pack, here are some tips on how to pack it all.

We look to Martha Stewart for tips on packing your hanging items and toiletries:

Hanging

For the most foolproof wrinkle-free packing, suits and blouses should be stuffed with tissue and encased in dry-cleaning bags before going into a travel garment bag. The tissue keeps the fabrics from crushing, and the plastic reduces friction so clothes can settle into their natural shape. Pack everything else -- shoes, toiletries, books, papers, valuables -- in a separate carry-on bag.

Toiletries

To avoid leaks caused by pressure changes during air travel, fill travel-size plastic bottles partway, squeeze out excess air, and cap them, creating a vacuum. Then double-bag them, first in a cosmetics bag or large resealable plastic bag, then in a plastic shopping bag. Never pack toiletries in the same bag with clothes -- a single spill can cause great damage. Along with toiletries, your carry-on bag should hold your jewelry and other valuables; eyewear; a travel first-aid kit; travel documents; maps; and reading material.

In an article for Apartment Therapy, packing expert Doug Dyment of OneBag.com says "If it's not on your list, it shouldn't be in your bag." "What happens with people is that they pack before their trip, and that packing activity consists mostly of talking to yourself and saying, 'Well I might need this and I might need that and what if the queen invites me to dinner?' And that's death to light packing."

Dyment has two big tricks for packing a bag correctly: Don't let any space go unused, and wrap your clothes in bundles.

"If you're packing a pair of running shoes, say, don't forget there's a lot of space inside those shoes that you can use to pack stuff," he says.

When it comes to clothing, Dyment says travelers who fold items individually, put them in a stack and force them in the suitcase are making a huge mistake.

Instead, he suggests using a technique called bundle wrapping, because it keeps clothes from getting wrinkled and takes up less space.

"You think of laying a shirt flat on your bed and placing this bundle where the chest would go and then gently wrap the sleeves around the bundle, and then bring the bottom up and wrap it around the top," he says. Here is a diagram to help you pack like a pro:

As I prepare to depart on a trip abroad for my Birthday (and a much needed break after Spring wedding season) later this month, I have been thinking a lot about packing- what to bring, how much to bring and how to get it all in my suitcase(s)! I am sure you brides-and-grooms-to-be are also thinking about this as you plan your honeymoon, so we decided to post this two part series of packing tips. {And don't you love the pretty luggage set above from Steamline?}

1. Pack light

Seems obvious but it’s always a challenge to pack as light as you know you should, because you want to look your best when on vacation. However, there are some things you can do to reduce the load and still look great. The first is to coordinate your vacation wardrobe so that every item you pack can mix and match with every other item.

Choose classic pieces with complementary colors as your basic wardrobe - a single pair of slacks, 1 pair of shorts, and a skirt if appropriate. These classic items can be combined with a selection of tops, belts, scarves, wraps and other less bulky accessories to fit most every occasion. And, by coordinating your vacation wardrobe you will also reduce the number of shoes you need to pack, which is a quick way to reduce bulk. For example, 1 pair of shoes for traveling, a pair of sandals and a pair of flit-flops is all that you really need for a tropical vacation, unless you plan to go on an eco adventure.

2. Don’t pack valuables

If you can’t live without that precious pendent, your grandmother’s ring, or your designer watch, then DO NOT pack them, and DO NOT bring them with you on vacation.

What with the opportunity for misplaced luggage, petty theft, and items you just forget to repack, savvy travelers tend to pack costume jewelry, whether or not their room has a safe. And…

You don’t want to wear flashy or expensive items while you are on vacation anyway because doing so will only attract pickpockets and undesirables.

There is nothing that can spoil your vacation faster than loosing something irreplaceable. So reduce stress and leave it behind, or…

Purchase travel insurance for anything of value that you must take with you, like your camera for example. Your homeowners’ policies may cover items that have been lost or stolen while on vacation.

3. Carry on essentials only

Pack only essentials in your carry on luggage - passport, travel documents, money, a complete change of clothes, your bathing suit, and perhaps a good book.

Delayed luggage, which often gets delivered to you the next day, is a lot easier to tolerate if you are in possession of a change of clothes, your medication and essential grooming tools, money and all your travel documents. This way you’ll breeze through any challenge the journey trough your way.

Jill and Kevin were married on June 5th in the North Georgia Mountains. Jill and Kevin are adorable together. They are the type of couple that you are around and think, "they are so right for each other." The ceremony setting on a lake with the Mountains in the background was nothing short of breathtaking. Amy's Bridal Portrait Session {and the benefits of having a bridal portrait session}

I know what you are thinking: "A bridal portrait!? How old school." It seems as though many brides think bridal portraits are a thing of the past or ultra traditional, but here are some advantages of having a portrait session before your wedding day:

*Practice makes perfect. Schedule your hair and make-up trial for the same day as the bridal portrait session. You will then get to see how your hair and make-up will look in photos on the day of the wedding and you can tweak if necessary. You will also get a sense of how your dress, veil and accessories will feel on your wedding day, so if you need to modify anything, you will have an opportunity to do so before you walk down the aisle.

*Get "the best of both worlds." Having a traditional/formal wedding? Think about taking your bridal portraits in a field or a much more casual setting so you get a variety of looks between your portrait and wedding day. Bring accessories that emphasize your personality. Cowboy boots might not be right for the day of your wedding, but if you love them, get a few pics at your bridal session.

*A bridal portrait session can save you time on the day of the wedding. With those photos out of the way, there will be more time for group bridal party and family photos which will hopefully get you to your reception faster!

And last, but not least, I think bridal portraits like Amy's look more like a magazine photo shoot than the uber posed, traditional portrait (those should be a thing of the past)! Hi!!! So sorry for being a little MIA lately, Peeps! Spring wedding season has been in FULL SWING over here. But we are back- in a big way! We have lots of amazing real wedding posts coming up, so stay tuned! The first post could be called "how to have an adorable wedding, even in the rain." Jen and Richard (remember their fab e-session?) were married on April 24th at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. The day started off with photos (gorgeous photos by W. Scott Chester) of the bride, groom and bridal party. I love Jen's dress, purple Kate Spade slingbacks and net veil.

I love this shot just after the ceremony ends.

The couple headed to their reception site- Dunwoody Country Club- for post wedding photos. Jen knew there was a very good chance it was going to rain, so she managed to find color coordinated polka dot umbrellas for post-ceremony bridal party photos. I adore the bridesmaids in different colors with coordinating shoes!

Jen actually attached fabric flowers to shoes she bought for the bridesmaids.

I still do not know how Jen managed to find Hunter Wellies in the exact shade of purple to coordinate with her other wedding details.

Jen and Richard had their first dance to their friend singing an awesome rendition of "You are the Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne.

Amy Osaba did the beautiful flowers- lush peonies, parrot tulips, ranunculus + more.

I leave you with their cute ring shot. I found this little canvas bag attached to the basket that the programs were in. It said on the outside "To:" and "From:" and thought... how perfect!

Real Wedding Feature: Heidi & Andy

I have known Heidi for quite some time. She is the Catering Sales Manager at 103 West, so we have worked together on many occasions for mutual client's weddings and rehearsal dinners. I was so excited to hear that Heidi was getting married last year. She and Andy are the cutest couple.

Heidi and Andy were married in Heidi's hometown in Des Moines, Iowa at the church she grew up in. Heidi looked beautiful in a Melissa Sweet gown and I adore her bouquet full of peonies, roses and ranunculus. Her girls looked great in floor-length black and white Jim Hjelm gowns- and check out the back of those dresses!

Andy and the gentleman looked dapper!

After the ceremony, the couple took photos together before proceeding to their reception at the Temple for Performing Arts.

This is one of my favorite images from their day. Absolutely gorgeous.

The reception florals and decor reinforced the black, white and hot pink color palette. My favorite reception details are the cake and the favors. The imported olive oil favors were chosen to represent where Andy and Heidi met- Italy. Such a great, personal touch!

FAQ: How does a Wedding Planner/Coordinator differ from a Catering Manager?

We (and other planners around the country) are frequently asked the difference in our role versus a Catering Manger's role on the day of your wedding. These differences were laid out in an article by Mary Dann-McNamee in the Spring issue of Inside Weddings. I though it would be useful to share that information here. I have added a few notes as well.

Your Catering Manager (usually) will:
+Provide a personalized tour of the venue (this may also be the responsibility of the venue sales manager if you are bringing in an outside caterer to an event space)
+Recommend special event professionals that have worked with them/at your venue previously that do a great job
+Act as a menu consultant for all food and beverage selections
+Detail your Banquet Event Order (BEO)/catering contract, outlining all of your event specifics and ensure that it is all communicated flawlessly to the operational team of the venue/caterer
+Create an estimate of charges outlining your financial commitments to the venue/caterer
+Create a floor plan of your function space in order for you to provide seating arrangements
+Oversee the ceremony and reception room(s) set up, food preparation and other venue/catering operations
+Act as the on-site liaison between your wedding planner and venue/catering operations staff
+Ensure a seamless transition to the venue/catering banquet captain once the grand entrance has occurred and dinner begins (this is typically when the Catering Manager leaves the reception)
+Review your banquet checks for accuracy, prior to the completion of the final bill

Your Wedding Planner/Consultant (usually) will:
+Provide a wide variety of professional referrals to suit your taste and budget
+Assist with etiquette and protocol for invitations, family matters, ceremony and toasts
+Create a comprehensive timeline for your rehearsal and wedding day including the ceremony and reception
+Work with you to organize and coordinate your ceremony rehearsal
+Remind bridal party of all pertinent call times
+Confirm call times and details with vendors several days prior to the wedding
+Act as a liaison between your family, bridal party, band/DJ, florist, photographer, videographer, caterer and other vendors to create a seamless operation
+Assist the bride with dressing
+Ensure the ladies have their corsages, bouquets, etc. and assist with the pinning of the boutonnieres before photos
+Deliver and arrange ceremony programs, escort cards, place cards, favors and any personal items (cake knives, toasting flutes, guest book, personal or family photos, etc....)
+Coordinate the ceremony (line up bridal party, assist with brides dress, etc.)
+Work with the venue and catering staff to ensure the reception room is set up properly with the appropriate number of tables (with table numbers or reserved signs placed correctly) and the proper number of seats at each table
+Coordinate the reception (bridal party/bride and groom's entrance, first dance + parent dances, toasts, cake cutting, grand exit, etc.)
+Collect personal items and gifts as the night goes on and put them in the assigned persons vehicle or hotel room

*I have included the information from the article that pertains to the role of your wedding planner/consultant/coordinator regardless of the level of service you have hired them for (Full Service or "Day of"). Some of the services offered by your planner that Mary talks about in the article may pertain only to a higher level of planning, so I have omitted those here. I hope this helps- I know it can be confusing who is responsible for what on the wedding day with so many vendors!

You remember Ashley and Daniel, right? They were married on April 10th. Pre-wedding photos took place at the W Midtown.

The ceremony was held at Christ the King. The sanctuary is so pretty... and Ashley and Daniel were fortunate that the gorgeous flowers on the alter and around the church from Easter services the weekend before still looked amazing.

There was a small break between the ceremony and reception, so there was plenty of time for photos after the wedding at the Duck Pond behind the church and some industrial shots near the reception venue. {Love this shadow shot}

The reception was at Puritan Mill. I love the exposed wood beams in the ceiling- such a raw and rustic feeling.

In addition to cake, guests enjoyed a sundae station for dessert. I had fun playing with this ring shot with Scott and his team.

I think these shots sum up how much fun the Bride and Groom and the guests had rocking out to Papa Sol.

Guests saw the couple off with a lavender toss. I love Daniel's expression in this photo- it really looks like he has had the best night of his life.

One of my best friends, Carla, attended this wedding earlier this year and enjoyed it so much she sent me the link to the photos. Shannon and Pratap are Carla's co-workers at Google. They were married in San Francisco. The wedding day started out with a stroll through Delores Park where the couple was greeted with thunderous applause from all of the people in the park enjoying the perfectly sunny day.

The couple then headed to their ceremony and reception venue- Foreign Cinema. The ceremony was a multi-cultural celebration combining American and Indian wedding rituals.

Love the stationery details- and that guest tables were named after the couples favorite movies.

The reception was full of love, family and friends- and old movies on the big screen under the "stars."

Earth Day is tomorrow! I had so much fun collaborating on this gorgeous eco-chic inspiration board with Chrissy of The Perfect Palette. Sometime ago I had a concept of a wedding that was heavy in floral details but was very eco-friendly and did not actually use any real flowers. Chrissy helped me pull these ideas together in this lovely board. Note the eco-friendly wedding gown, conflict free diamond ring, balsa wood flower bouquet {balsa wood is ecologically sustainable timber} and other pretty, environmentally friendly details.

I think this might be our last real wedding feature from 2009... Sarah and Brannan were married and held their reception at the Piedmont Room on October 10th. Sarah chose a pretty Fall color palette of a unique shade of chartreuse green, chocolate brown and shades of orange.

Sarah and Brannan opted to see each other before the ceremony, so there was plenty of time for great pre-wedding photos at the venue and in Piedmont Park.

The bridal party looked great...

...but I am pretty sure these two stole the show!

I love the branches and orange florals used in the ceremony and reception.

The couple was sent off with a grand sparkler exit!

It seems Miss Monique Lhuillier is consistently showing up here on Fab Frock Friday... I also adore all of the shoes that the bride, who is a shoe designer, created for herself and her bridesmaids. What do I love more-- the dress...the shoes....the dress....the shoes.... this could go on for a while.

Elana and Michael were married and held their reception at Hotel Palomar in Midtown on March 20th. I loved Elana's Watters & Watters gown with floral applique details. Her bridesmaids wore chocolate Vera Wang dresses that tied into bows on the shoulders- cute! Elana established her color palette early on in the process- incorporating the vibrant green seen around the hotel in all of her stationery (that she made!) and in the florals {This is actually a great cost saving idea- utilizing a color found in furniture and details in your reception location, so you get that custom look for less}. Michael and Elana enjoyed a lovely evening with friends and family that included cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the rooftop terrace, a seated dinner with chocolate banana bread pudding for dessert instead of cake and a night full of dancing to the couples favorite tunes. I received the most adorable map in the mail a couple of weeks ago from a San Francisco based company called Couture Maps. Stephannie Barba makes the most adorable maps (named one of Brides Magazines 100 Best Products of the year) that she then sews on a fabric backing. I also love the maps used on Save-the-Dates or even on wedding accessories such as welcome bags or napkins.

I am head over heels for this Atlanta photo shoot from Melanie Carter, Amy Osaba, Raney O'Keefe and Aregrayline Photography. I imagine this couple walking over to the Court House together on a lovely early Spring morning- chatting all the way about their new life together. I love the concept that a Court House wedding with an intimate and casual reception to follow can be equally as chic and stylized as a grand affair {a la Sex and the City}.

We live in such a technology driven society it is no surprise technology has found its way into the wedding world. Here are some tidbits from around the web that may help you along your wedding planning journey.

iPhone apps: Eric Hegwer reviews 16 suggested wedding planning iPhone apps here. Of those 16, these are our faves:

Bride Guide (4.99) if you only need one app that can handle it all, this is the one. Tons of features including a countdown timer, to-do lists, budget calculator, and tons of informative articles that will take you from I will to I do.

Gotta Etsy (.99) Take one part incredible handmade stuff, one part internet store, and sprinkle with a ton of creativity. Etsy is the on-line source for all things handmade – and there are a ton of different wedding related items from custom letterpress invitations and save the date cards, to ring holders and more.

Nike Training Club (free) Train like an athlete with the NikeWomen Training Club. Create a personalized training program you can access anytime. Customize your workouts, invite your friends, and watch training videos. This exercise app focuses on the five areas of athleticism: cardio, core, strength, balance, and flexibility.

Yoga Trainer lite (free) – This is the free version – but there is also a paid version – Learn Yoga at your own pace. From beginner to advanced levels. Customize the sequences, and step by step pose instructions.

WeatherBug (free) I prefer this app to the standard iPhone weather application because it offers so much more – vidoe forecasts, radar maps, current humidity, and more.

Sunrise Sunset (.99) Easy to use little application that will display the sunrise, sunset, dawn, solar noon, and dusk (civil twilight end). Use the built in GPS or enter your own custom location. {This is useful when considering a photo timeline for the day of your wedding. Will there be enough light outdoors post ceremony for those "must have" shots?}

Amazon Mobile (free) As everyone knows, Amazon.com is the most comprehensive on-line shopping site on the internet. By using some of the advanced features, you can create a wish list and share it with your friends. It’s just like a bridal registry. Family and friends can even order gifts right from your wish list, and send them to you with a gift card.

iBridal Gown (3.99) Designed by a bridal salon owner, this app will help you in your search for the perfect wedding gown. As you visit bridal salons you enter info about the different dresses you love. Your favorite dresses are stored in an easy to use list, where you can view details, pictures, and even directions back to the store with your perfect dress.

theKnot wedding 911 (free) Designed by the editors at the Knot magazine and the Knot.com this free iPhone app is your on-the-go source for expert wedding advice. You can even post questions and get instant answers from other brides-to-be.

iTunes (included with your iPhone) – download songs, and create playlists of your favorite wedding songs. Of course this is no substitution for a professional DJ or a live band, but it does provide some great music for getting ready, or so you can share ideas with your DJ.

Maps (included with your iPhone) – There are some powerful features to the built in map program – When you are visiting a venue, use the drop a pin feature to note the location then add it to your contacts. You can get directions from your hotel to the venue, and reception and send them to friends so they don’t get lost, too. Even check traffic patterns so you don’t get stuck.

Contacts (included with your iPhone) Stay organized with all your vendors. Names, addresses (and links to maps) websites, and notes are all just a few taps away. Create groups to take it to the next level .

Banking Apps from Bank of America, Chase, Citibank Paypal to help you keep track of your finances and stay on budget.

Google Wedding Docs:

This new partnership should make choosing a bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses much easier.

Perfectly Neutral

I have come to realize that I, personally, have a relatively neutral palette. I wear a lot of black, white and brown, some grey and the occasional muted blue or pink. My home is full of the same tones. There is something peaceful and calming about these tones to me. So this board from Snippet and Ink has to be one my all time faves. I also love the rustic, outdoor elements. Wishing you a wonderful weekend- it is supposed to be gorgeous here in Atlanta!

Toni & Matt

Toni and Matt were married at Peachtree Christian Church just a couple of weeks ago on March 13th. Their wedding was full of fun yellow, black and white details.

Toni looked amazing in a stunning Monique Lhuillier gown- I couldn't take my eyes off of that gown! The girls looked perfectly put together in J.Crew dresses {that they actually can wear again}, stella & dot necklaces and black heels of their choice.

When guests entered the reception at King Plow Art Gallery, there was a gorgeous display of black manzanita branches adorned with black and white paper flowers and yellow ribbons- two "Wishing Trees" where guests were to sign in and hang their well wishes for the newlyweds.

There was a fun lounge area for guests to relax, chat and rest their feet from dancing!

The Tip-Tops put on a great show and guests danced the night away...

On their way out of the party, guests were invited to enjoy the candy bar with lots of different yellow and white candy and grab a sparkler for the couple's exit.

Well, Anthropologie has caught on to this trend. The brand’s parent company, Urban Outfitters Inc., announced that it will launch a bridal collection featuring heirloom wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, accessories and gifts designed with Anthropologie’s distinctively ethereal, feminine feel.

The still-unnamed bridal concept launches in Spring 2011 as a Web site, through which brides-to-be can schedule local fittings, before branching into stores. “We have found that many brides-to-be are inspired by our aesthetic,” Anthropologie co-president Wendy B. McDevitt said in a statement. Wedding gowns will retail from $750 to $5000, with occasion and bridesmaid dresses starting at $200. Content and Photo Credit

Yay! We are excited to see Jennifer and Jay's wedding on the Southern Weddings Magazine blog! I love to hear the back story of our couples-- Jen and Jay's engagement story {below} cracks me up. Enjoy the full posts here and here.

Describe the proposal. It’s embarrassing. I’m a little… hyper-organized. Jay had been living out of a bag and I’d ordered new dressers so he could have more storage. On the day that they arrived, I started putting all of his stuff away and found an oddly lumpy sock. I reached in a pulled out a blue box and proceeded to freak out. It was hard not to peak inside, but I exercised some super-human willpower and put it back where I found it. When Jay got home, I tried to play it off like I hadn’t found it, but he figured out what was going on within five minutes. His planned proposal (we were going to Mexico in a week) was pretty much ruined so he broke down and proposed one Sunday afternoon in bed. We still get a good laugh out of the whole debacle.

A wedding planner attends a wedding

Well, I did it. I attended a wedding- as a guest. A few weeks ago, my sweet, dear friend Cate married Tim at St. Mark United Methodist Church and the reception followed at the Biltmore. A few of my favorite details from the day were...

Cate's Anne Barge gown with a black sash! Black details are so hot right now in bridal fashion!

Cate's color palette was pink and black and the reception featured a lot of ivory as well. I am a little surprised she didn't choose red and black given her UGA alumni status. But Tim went to Florida, so I don't think he would have allowed it.

Cate had her brother by her side as she exchanged vows with her new husband- we was her "Man of Honor." So sweet!

This might be my favorite detail... Cate had her veil monogrammed. Cate is fortunate in that her married monogram is the same as her previous monogram, so this will undoubtedly become a family heirloom.

Cate is the Catering Sales Manager at the Four Seasons, so the pastry chef at the hotel was kind enough to make her gorgeous cake! Love those swiss dots!

Succulent Inspiration

We are working on the design elements for one of our lovely Fall brides. She intends to incorporate succulents in addition to vintage pieces on her tables. I am loving these succulent looks from this amazing wedding.

And this bouquet would be perfect to pull in some of the plum accents we are going to incorporate along with all different shades of green.
